CTC Readers' Poll:
Incorporating More Movement into Your Day

In the April 15, 2008 issue of the newsletter, Counting the Cost editor
Nancy Twigg asked readers this question:

"What tricks you have found for incorporating more movement into your day? Beside your regular exercise, how do you sneak some extra exertion into your lifestyle?"

Responses:

"My laundry room is in the basement. Rather than taking the clean, folded laundry back upstairs to the bedrooms in a laundry basket, I take a small pile in my arms, put it away, then run back downstairs for another small load. You can get several sets of stairs done while putting your laundry away. Also, I make sure that empty jars go downstairs in the pantry one at a time.  Be less efficient with your trips and you'll maximize the benefits of stair running!" ~ Donna

"I heard of this in Weight Watchers years ago and have been practicing it since, whenever possible. Don't always look for the parking spot closest to the door at the mall, grocery store or other shopping areas. Parking farther away forces us to walk a little more and those few extra steps add up.  (Another plus:  your vehicle is less likely to get 'dinged' if it's in an area where fewer cars are parked.)" ~  Linda in Minnesota

"When my cats want me to play with them, I'll run through the house dragging their yarn or fishing-pole toy. They like to chase a fast-moving object, and I get a little extra exercise from all the running." ~ Anne Marie

"Two simple things I do to get more movement into my day is to park farther away from the stores and to take the steps instead of riding the elevator or escalator." ~ Gail

"I always park at the far end of the parking lot from the store I am going to. Also, I never take elevators, I use the stairs." ~ Beth
