A few weeks ago, I took a trip to South Dakota to be the featured speaker at two events. While I was there, I had the opportunity to visit one of our country's most famous landmarks, Mount Rushmore. Here are a few of the photos I took during my visit.

Because I had a plane to catch at 11:30 that morning, I went to the monument before it had officially opened. I met another "early bird" there named Nola. We took each other's picture in the traditional touristy fashion.

I've seen this picture on postcards and in magazines hundreds of times, but being so close to such an awesome monument was truly breathtaking.

Another one of Nola's snapshots--me hanging out with the founding fathers!
In the walkway that leads to the monument, there is the Avenue of Flags which features the flags of all fifty states and the six US Territories.
I was surprised by the wildlife I saw during my visit. This mountain goat was just one of several I saw grazing in a grassy area beside the parking lot. I also saw a couple of deer fearlessly crossing one of the driveways to get to the wooded area on the other side.
