Creatively Frugal Fall Decorating

How do you get that festive fall look around your home without spending a fortune?

"Here are three of my favorites:

1) I frequently use strings of tiny white Christmas lights around my front door interspersed with autumn leaves, pumpkins, gourds and other autumnal decorations.
Rather than giving the house a 'spooky' look, the tiny white lights brighten up the decor and make the front door into a welcoming entryway. Rather than using candles to light your carved pumpkin, thread white Christmas lights into holes carved or drilled into the
back of the pumpkin.

2) Line a festive walkway with luminarias made out of pumpkins or carved gourds.

3) After cleaning out the interior of a pumpkin, you can use drill bits of different sizes to make dots and circles, arranging them in festive designs all over the pumpkins (abstract patterns, bunches of grapes, faces, etc.).
Consider using carved pumpkins or gourds as autumn centerpieces on your holiday table.

I'm not much into seasonal decorating either, but a few things really do perk up the house. When you have children in preschool/ kindergarten, you know art will flow in the door! Mine are now teenagers, but there is some of their art that's still working at our house! Also Dollar Tree and Dollar General have very inexpensive knick knacks." ~ Cynthia

"I grow pumpkins, squash, mini pumpkins, gourds in my garden every year. That gives me a head start on fall decorating. I have found fall leaves garlands and individual leaves at the dollar store. I go through my vases, flowerpots, teapots, bowls and get out the ones with fall colors. I also collect acorns outside.  I line the shelves of my china cabinet with the garlands and then set in the pottery pieces.  I add the garden produce and then sprinkle the fall leaves  and acorns around. In the summer I frequent garage and tag sales. I get my pottery pieces there cheaply. None of this costs a lot but the end result is beautiful." ~ Anonymous
